Royale Derby Party

Ladies, procure your finest Derby hat and spring dresses. Gentlemen, get your seersucker suits pressed and your hats boxed. It is time to cheer on the ponies at the 6th Annual Royale Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday May 7th. We have a contest for best male and female hat as well as best dressed race jockey. Proper Derby dress code will be enforced.

Miss Jubilee & the Humdingers will be performing the ragtime jump blues on the courtyard. Mint Juleps and featured cocktails will be available at an additional satellite bar in order to keep the cheer flowing and a special food menu to quell the peckish.

Young grade school scholars Tom and Molly Stein will be selling 50/50 chances on horses benefiting the Cabrini school.

A limited number of advance $6 tickets(2 per person) will be available on April 22nd at the Royale, and there will be allotted tickets available on the day of the race.

The party starts at 2pm with music starting at 3:30. Post time at 5:04.

Royale Shuttle for Cardinals Baseball

Royale Shuttle for Cardinals Baseball

Love going to the game, but don’t want to deal w/ driving, parking or the traffic? Meet at the Royale with your fellow Cardinal fans and take our special shuttle to all 81 home ballgames. Shuttle rides are $2 per trip and run on the half hour before, after and during the game with the pickup on the corner of Kingshighway and Arsenal and drop off on Broadway and Chouteau, just south of Busch Stadium. The pickup will also be on Broadway on the southbound Broadway lane south of Chouteau.

In fact the full sized air-conditioned and heated bus runs 7 days a week from the early morning to late at night. Metro Bus system in Saint Louis offers this service w/ the #30 Soulard bus. I know some of you say this ain’t a shuttle. It is better than a shuttle. It can pick you up and drop you off all along the route(Arsenal east to Broadway north) and you can throw your bike on the front of the bus. And there are many routes you can take from downtown that can take you to your house. While everyone else is stuck in traffic or waiting to get onto the train, you can sail in the bus which is a superior to get around in these instances. Besides, if you fancy yourself a big city kid you really need to stop being a wuss and start taking the bus.

I’ll be taking the bus to opening day. Just ask the bartender and they will be able to tell you when the bus is scheduled to come by.

Here is the schedule:

http://www.metrostlouis.org/Libraries/Metrobus_Schedules/30032811.pdf

for tomorrow’s opening day game the bus comes at the following times to Kingshighway & Arsenal: 12:23, 12:53, 1:23, 1:53, 2:22, 2:52
Pickups at Southbound Broadway just south of Chouteau at 6:06, 6:46, 7:26 and every 40 minutes after that till after midnight

So make the Royale your baseball startpoint for all games

A Lemp Beer Lecture

Posted by on Mar 17, 2011 in News | 0 comments

Ordinarily, the posts here deal with South City’s favorite corner bar, but we realize that our fans are a literate, educated and eclectic lot. With a shared interest in beer, we believe.

Here’s an event that might be of interest to those curious about our town’s brewing history:

Sunset Hills, MO — March 15, 2011 The Sunset Hills Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, March 28 at 7 PM at the Sunset Hills Community Center.  The featured speaker will be Davidson Mullgardt, who will be speaking about the Lemp Estate, located in Sunset Hills. The home was formerly owned by the Lemp family who brewed Falstaff beer.

“Because many of the records were destroyed, there are recent discoveries about the Lemp saga,” said Davidson Mullgardt, historian and former high school English teacher.

He will be demonstrating some of those discoveries, discussing the Lemp family, their beer-brewing business as well as the architecture of the home that is in Sunset Hills.

The Lemp Estate is currently a private residence and inaccessible to the public.

The City Hall of Sunset Hills is located at 3939 South Lindbergh Blvd. and the Community Center is just behind it in the same complex.

St. Louis Weather Strikes Again! February Patio Policy

Posted by on Feb 13, 2011 in News | 0 comments

Unseasonably warm temperatures predicted for the week means everyone wants to get outside and breath some fresh air again. We do, too! The Royale will be offering table service on the patio only during lunch this week, until 4pm. If you still wish to dine al fresco after 4pm, you are most welcome to order from the bar and enjoy your fine food and spirits on the patio.

Operating on a skeleton staff, as all patio-blessed establishments do during the winter, we simply do not have enough staff to offer table service after 4pm… in February. Look for the patio to be open for full service in mid-April, as always. Thank you for your understanding.

Valentine’s Day & Vinyl Side Monday

Posted by on Feb 11, 2011 in Events, News | 0 comments

A special edition of Vinyl Side Valentine’s Day this week- bring in your favorite love/hate recording then recite the lyrics for all to hear.
==

Instead of staying at home suffering under the crushing weight of solitude this Valentine’s Day, join love magnates Stefene Russell and Thom Fletcher at The Royale, where they will give you the tools you need to win the heart you deserve. It’s easy to speak your mind freely to somebody once you already share an established relationship. You can say things like “In Holly-rock her name would be Mary Stewart Mastodon” or “Please don’t talk about Flinstones to my coworkers, Thom”. But when you first have your soul-mate in your sites and it’s time to make your intentions clear, every word counts. What will you say? What words will be the key that fits the most important lock? Let’s face it; you need some serious help here. You could look to Shakespeare or Elizabeth Barrett Browning, but they don’t really describe that yearning of yours to rock one like a hurricane, or how much you like a cold beverage, yeah, like a cold beverage, yeah, like a cold beverage. On Valentine’s Day the lyrics of our generation’s greatest balladeers are in your hands and the whole bar is waiting for your recital. Find that special someone in the room, make eye contact, and let them know just how you feel with the words of Richie, Mothersbaugh, Yorke, Cent and Rotten. Singing will only obscure the words – this must be spoken, and spoken loud. Dutch courage available for those with weak knees. This year when you see cupid flitting about the Royale, you don’t need to call animal control. Instead bring a badminton racket and we’ll serve him up right.
